Beautiful fermented garlic. 🍯🧄 Both the honey and the cloves are so good for an immune boost! #Garlic #Honey #Cloves #Immunity #Health
Fermenting foods is one of my favorite things to do because it helps me digest everything better. I have struggled with digestive issues since birth. Fermenting foods and items I use as natural medicine have made a huge difference in my quality of life.
Fermented garlic honey takes 4 to 8 weeks to be ready to use. The process is incredibly simple and very easy to accomplish. Like all fermented items, it’s best to brew this beauty in a cool, dark location. I keep mine in the cupboard, but as long as it’s away from sunlight, you should be okay.
Lets make it!
In order to make fermented garlic honey, you will need a few items. Everything you need will most likely already be in your kitchen.
Equipment/ingredients needed:
- Mason jar (or jar with lid)
- Garlic cloves
- Raw honey (I prefer mine from a local producer)
- Plate to catch any mess
- Dark cool (not freezing) location like closet, basement, cupboard.
Steps:
- Fill your jar with peeled garlic cloves.
- Then fill jar 3/4 with honey.
- Place lid on but do not tighten
- Place in cool dark location in top of saucer or plate for 4 weeks stirring every other day.
- Check to see if honey is runny like cough syrup and has a strong garlic smell. If so, its ready to use. If not give it another week and check. It should be done and ready to use by week 8.
*do not tighten lid. The lid needs to be loose so gas can escape while it ferments. This is very important.
Store in a cool place out of sunlight.
You may consider taking a tablespoon daily to support your immune system, or as needed if you feel a virus or illness approaching. This, along with Elderberry syrup, is among our preferred remedies for maintaining immune health. We also ensure a good supply of herbal teas and tinctures at home, as we endeavor to minimize the use of chemical pharmaceuticals.
I hope that you stay well and healthy and this information was a blessing to you.
